Topic 2
Combatting Violence Against Women
Acts of violence against women (e.g. rape, trafficking, intimate partner violence and honor killings) has been a prominent global issue for millennia and remains one to this day. Since the 20th century an increasing number of initiatives aimed at protecting women from violence have emerged. Feminist movements have forced many countries around the world to reform their laws, however the enforcement of these laws is often not rigorous enough to force everyone to comply and in some countries oppressive laws, encouraging violence against women, still exist.
